We represented the daughter of an 89-year-old woman who was suffering from multiple medical problems (including diabetes, renal failure, congestive heart failure, sickle cell disease and congestive constructive pulmonary disease). She was admitted to the hospital with a history of falling and low sodium levels. While trying to obtain vascular access, a resident physician attempted to place a central venous catheter into the woman’s right internal jugular vein, but instead negligently placed it into the right internal carotid artery, dissecting the artery wall and resulting in a subsequent stroke. The woman remained in a state of quadriplegia as a result of the brain damage suffered from the stroke. We reached a settlement with the hospital prior to filing suit over her injuries from the negligence.<\/p>\n
