$1.5 Million Award for Arrest Based on False Allegation, Alleged Confession<\/h1>\n

When he was a 15-year-old minor, our client was arrested for stabbing to death a 26-year-old woman. The arrest was based on the false allegation of another person arrested on drug charges and on an alleged confession secured by two Chicago police officers from our client in which he allegedly admitted to stabbing the young woman with a knife. Our client spent more than a year in the Cook County Juvenile Detention Center awaiting trial, even though the police knew of the autopsy results that showed the victim had not been stabbed. Rather, she died from strangulation, a fact the officers did not know at the time they coerced the confession from our client. The criminal trial judge acquitted the young man and, after a long process to secure a just resolution, we recovered $1.5 million in compensation from the city of Chicago for the officers’ wrongdoing.<\/p>\n
