Trucks regularly travel throughout Illinois. Unfortunately, this can result in catastrophic accidents. These are the most common types that occur.

Why do truck accidents happen?

Truck accidents occur for various reasons. It could be due to driver error such as distraction or neglect. Reckless driving and even a defect in the truck or one of its components can result in serious accidents.

Jackknifing

Jackknifing is a type of truck accident that occurs when the cab of a truck moves at a 90-degree angle adjacent to its trailer. The driver often loses control of the truck, which can easily result in a crash. Normally, this type of truck accident is caused by abrupt braking.

Tire blowout

A tire blowout can happen with any type of vehicle, but it’s very common with trucks. If there is too much weight on the truck or the tires are very old, a blowout is more likely to occur. Pieces of tire debris can litter across the road at top speeds, putting people in other vehicles at risk.

Rear-end accidents

Trucks are massive vehicles with a lot of weight. If the driver is traveling too fast, it can result in a rear-end accident that can devastate the occupants of the vehicle it hits. Rear-end accidents involving trucks can result in catastrophic injuries or death.

Rollovers

One of the worst types of truck accidents that can occur is a rollover. The truck can roll over onto its side if the cargo it’s carrying is too heavy or the driver is speeding. When this type of accident happens, it often results in fatalities.

Head-on collisions

A head-on collision with a truck can result in serious harm. If the other vehicle is much smaller, the results can be devastating.
