What is Product Liability?
Product liability refers to the legal responsibility manufacturers, distributors, retailers, and sellers have when the products they sell or distribute cause injury. These cases can involve consumer goods, food, prescription drugs, electronics, equipment, tools, machines, instructions and more. Injuries may result from poor design, faulty manufacturing, or a failure to provide adequate warnings or instructions. Wise Law represents clients who have been hurt by unsafe products and works to hold those responsible accountable under state and federal laws.

Common Causes of Product Injuries
- Defective Design – Inherently unsafe design that makes the product dangerous, even if used correctly
- Improper Warnings or Instructions – Failure to alert users about known risks or proper usage
- Faulty Manufacturing – Errors in production that result in a dangerous or defective item
- Contaminated Food Products – Unsafe handling, bacteria, or foreign substances causing illness
- Drug and Medication Injuries – Side effects or health complications not properly disclosed
- Malfunctioning Medical Devices – Implants, pumps, or monitors that fail and cause harm
- Toxic Chemical Exposure – Unsafe levels of hazardous substances in consumer or industrial products
- Defective Electronics – Devices that spark fires, explode, or overheat, causing burns or property damage
- Imported Product Failures – Items that don’t meet U.S. safety standards or bypass proper inspections
- Everyday household items – Garage doors, falling furniture, children’s toys, electronics, and tools, etc.
- Cars and motor vehicles – seatbelts and crashworthiness
- Workplace machinery – cranes, equipment controls, and scaffolds
- Diving equipment – respirators and buoyance controls
Common Injuries from Defective Products
Defective or dangerous products can cause serious and sometimes life-altering injuries. Victims may suffer burns, electrocution, deep lacerations, amputations, brain damage and paralysis from malfunctioning tools, machinery, or electronics. Toxic chemicals or contaminated foods can lead to respiratory issues, internal damage, or severe illness. Faulty medications or medical devices may worsen health conditions or trigger new complications. In some cases, injuries caused by unsafe products result in permanent disability or wrongful death. Wise Law works to ensure clients receive full and fair compensation for their injuries, lost income, and medical care. $11 Million Settlement
A 64-year-old man — who suffered severe brain damage after a ladder he was using collapsed — won an $11 million federal verdict during a retrial against the manufacturer. While on the ladder, the right-side rail collapsed, spilling him onto a cement driveway and causing permanent, severe brain damage. Although the manufacturer was found not liable in the first trial, the original trial counsel objected when the court allowed jurors during their deliberations to inspect a model of the ladder that had not been admitted into evidence. Wise Law Offices handled the appeal and secured the $11 million verdict in the successful retrial ordered by the Seventh Circuit. The injured man remains incapacitated and institutionalized in a skilled nursing care facility where his wife supervises his treatment.
